Chef Alessandro Miceli's personal selection of Specialty Coffee.
About the Coffee
La Roca is produced by 65 small-scale coffee growers that live on the Cordillera of Dipilto, a nature reserve with incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna. It is located very close to the frontier with Honduras. The region is popular because of the annual celebration of the Guadalupe Virgin that takes place there. The celebration is a feast and is named after the Virgen de la Piedra who looks over Dipilto from the sacred monument that sits on the mountain in Dipilto. This mountain or rock is where La Roca, gets its name from.
Specialty coffee is what makes Dipilto such a well-known area. Conditions such as its elevation, soils, and microclimates make this community ideal for exceptional coffees. Caravela Nicaragua began to work with small-scale growers in this area in 2012. It wasnt until the end of 2013 however when we decided to install a cupping lab in Ocotal, allowing us to be closer to the producers to help them produce better quality coffees. La Roca is a floral coffee with notes of brown sugar, milk chocolate, and a silky body - making an amazing combination of sweet and juicy flavors.
